Abstract:

Objective

Analysis of clinical efficacy of proton pump inhibitors in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and GERD.

Methods

A total of 83 patients with COPD and GERD whom diagnosed and treated in our hospital from January 2018 to January 2019 were selected as study objects. Those patients were randomly divided into control group (41 cases) and observation group (42 cases). The control group given routine therapy that includes anti-inflammatory, anti-spasmodic and asthma-reducing phlegm drugs; Mean while, the observation group was given esmeprazole on the basis of control group. Two groups were treated for two weeks of period. Then, the GerdQ syptom score, COPD assessment test (CAT) score, and lung function such as FVC (L), EFV1 (L), EFV1/FVC (%) of two groups pre and post treatment were analyzed.

Results

There were no significant differences between the two groups of general information such as gender (male/female), age, BMI, course of disease, smoking, drinking, GerdQ score, and CAT score (t=0.097, 0.309, 0.084, 0.100, 0.736, 0.436, 0.855, 0.303; P>0.05); As compare to post-treatment in control group, the observation group showed greater improvement in the levels of FVC (L), EFV1 (L), and EFV1/FVC(%), witch statistical significances (t=12.957, 14.573, 5.446, -17.219, -5.156; P<0.05); At the same time, levels of CAT score and GerdQ score were also significantly reduced in observation group (P<0.05).

Conclusion

The clinical efficacy of proton pump inhibitors may most effective in the ameliorating of GERD syptomes and lung function of COPD patients with GERD.
